Building community, deepening understandings, and working to challenge internalized racism.
In the spirit of psychology’s social justice movement broadly, and commitments to challenge internalized racism specifically, the White Women Working on Internalized Racism group was created.
The White Women Working on Internalized Racism Group recognizes that White women can contribute to racism as well as work towards eliminating interpersonal dynamics and institutional arrangements of racism. Thus, this group seeks to foster an empowering community where White women can connect with other White women, engage in dialogue surrounding internalized racism, deepen understandings about White privilege, and collaborate to effect social and political change.
In addition, the group seeks to provide opportunities for women to share resources (e.g., books, films, websites, etc.) that address internalized racism and White privilege. To this end, the group hopes to contribute to the elimination of racism and all forms of oppression.
